Secretary of State

The Secretary of State for a US state is generally that state’s chief elections officer, chief corporations officer, and supervisor of state archives. The Secretary of State works to enhance government transparency and to institute financial safeguards by registering and authenticating business entities. Key corporate documents such as formation documents will need to be filed with the Secretary of State in the state of formation. Each state may have different filing requirements.
